It’s important that you register your domain soon, because when GoDaddy runs this $0.99 promotions, they either end them at 12:00 a.m. or within about 24 hours of the promotion starting.

I was one of the lucky winner’s of one of Rick’s AEIOU info minisites a few months ago. I never wanted to spend the money it took to build an AEIOU minisite, only because I knew I could build one on my own for under $10. When I won, I was excited because I was getting a free minisite and I would get the chance to see the results it produced.

This minisite, until AEIOU began hiding their prices and told clients to contact them, had a face value of about $250. They also talk very highly of themselves and get clients excited to see results. I am going to leave the representative I worked with from AEIOU nameless, but he stated that I should begin getting traffic and making some money within 3 months. He even told me their was a chance that the site would be making money when I got home from my 1-month trip to Fiji this past summer.

Here were my results:

Traffic: 0 Visitors

Revenue $0.00

I decided to take a closer look at the content found on my minisite, especially considering my stats. I couldn’t begin to believe that the people who wrote these articles did more than a second of research. The content was so terrible I couldn’t believe my eyes. I might as well of had my neighbor’s 5 year old write the content. It probably would’ve been better. That’s how bad the content was.

Rick Latona states in his one of his most recent blog posts (titled: “There’s no money in web design. AEIOU is getting out of the outsourcing business.” on RickLatona.com:

The reality is there is no money in web design. It’s hard. The customers are hard to please. The margins are slim and frankly, there are bigger fish to fry.

Rick, maybe what you mean to say is that there’s no money for the customer, there’s only money for AEIOU. And the customers are hard to please? I wonder why. Maybe it’s because you talk very highly of AEIOU, and then go off building bad minisites, suggesting to customers to improve and market their minisite on their own, like you did to me. (Personally, I think AEIOU is lieing and there’s no marketing done to the site whatsoever). And you’re right, there are bigger fish to get money from. But promise me that you will build something worth their money.

That’s why I think AEIOU is shutting down their minisite production. They just aren’t working and Rick can’t admit that.

Rick, I hope you get the chance to read this and comment on this. Please note I have a high level of respect for you. You’re one of the best domainer’s in the industry. I love reading RickLatona.com. But my AEIOU experience was a complete letdown.

I would estimate that 99.9% of internet entrepreneurs are in the business for the sole purpose for making/raising money, or spreading the word about their product/idea/company. When a company wants to make money, they have two options for what to do:

1) Try to create a new website with a totally unique concept that hasn’t been done before.

2) Stick with what they know, and the different types of websites that normally provide a solid income.

Those are the most likely the two biggest things a business must evaluate. For option number 1, the risk you take is not knowing any types of statistics, or numbers, that can help you figure out whether that concept will be successful. For option number 2, your risk is simply, competition. So each has their own risks involved in it.

Trying something new normally will either prove itself to be a complete success or total fail. There are exceptions, but that is how trying new concepts normally goes. Right now, I am trying to develop my first website that is a totally unique concept you won’t find anywhere else on the web. I haven’t seen the results yet, but I will certainly share them to viewers. Also, another big issue I have now experienced, and most experience when creating a new concept is expenses. It tends to be a lot more expensive because if it’s a new concept, it normally needs a lot of customization to the website, and also to create a website that is fully functional.

Sticking with the basics is something I have done before. I built a PTC (paid-to-click) website, which is a relatively new concept, but there are a good number of PTC websites out there, including many big ones. I made it, promoted it, got many users, and made a lot of money. I ended up selling the site for an undisclosed amount after I figured out it was too time consuming, but I got a very nice return. So sticking with the basics can really pay off. But there are plenty of PTC websites for example that completely fail. I think if you are going to stick with the basics and build a website that isn’t a new concept, you need to know how to market it correctly. You need to also be willing to of course put some good money into that marketing. It’s important because you have competition, who you want to beat out.

Anyways, what do you guys think will make you bigger bucks in a general sense, new concepts or sticking with the basics? Please comment below, I think it would be interesting to see what everyone has to say based off and on personal experiences.

Don’t be too quick while checking out to buy a domain name with GoDaddy. They have changed their default registration length up from 2 years to 5 years. Be aware and notice that when going through the GoDaddy checkout process. And for most of us, change the registration length down to 1 or 2 years. You can see in the picture the default screen that comes up in the checkout process, and notice how it says under registration length, 5 years.

The reason I noticed this was because a couple a days ago, I was purchasing 3 or 4 domain names through GoDaddy. As I sped through the checkout process, when it asked me to confirm that I wanted to pay X amount, it came up with an extremely high number like $150 or $175. Of course at this point, my eyes shot open. So I went back in the checkout process to change each domain’s registration down to 1 year.

It was a very close one though. I had almost gone through with paying $150 or $175 for 3 or 4 domain names, that in this economy would be hard to sell for profit, even though they would have been registered for 5 years. Quite frankly, because I did this before I went to bed, had it been an hour or so later, I would have probably gone through with the purchase without realizing.

So domainer’s, be careful when registering your GoDaddy domain names. It is very important to look out for small schemes like this, that big companies like GoDaddy will come up with, and have many people fall for their trap We would all love to hear your comments!

I sold one of my domain names over the forums about 2 days ago. The domain is registered at DynaDot.com, and when I went to transfer it, they made me go through an unlocking process to unlock the domain. The process includes requiring you to enter your birth date. Now, there are tons of people who could have made this account for me, ranging from my business partner to one close to me. Quite frankly, it was so long ago, I have to clue who made it, and what their birthday was.

So I emailed DynaDot support, and their response was telling me if I wanted to unlock my, and didn’t know my own birthday (which I was a little insulted about, because the support team didn’t take into consideration that someone else could have made the account for me or I may have just entered in a random date), I must send them a government-issued photo ID.

What an inconvenience! I couldn’t believe they would make me go through this entire faxing process just to transfer one cheap domain. I have got to say, my day flipped from a good one to a bad one once I began dealing with DynaDot. And honestly, they won’t have a part in my business again after this hopefully. I will stick to my favorites, GoDaddy and Moniker.

Anyways, that was my rant on DynaDot. Maybe once they clean up their acts, by possibly implementing easier processes into their system I will consider using them again. I would love to hear everyone’s comments on DynaDot and past experiences with them.

I discussed in an article a couple of weeks ago about how I had submitted some of my domains to the DOMAINfest live auction hosted by Moniker. And yet, even though when I submitted my domains, the site said I would be contacted within 2 business days, many weeks fly by and no representative has contacted me. I decided to dig a little bit deeper into the situation to find out whether it was just my submission, or whether they just can’t get their act together.

A couple of domainers I know had also submitted names to Moniker. DOMAINfest is a very big, respected domain auction, so a lot of domainers worldwide are submitting their domains. Every person I talked to who submitted domains to the auction hadn’t gotten a response. Just for the record, I only talked with 7 or 8 of my friends. Most of whom were getting aggravated with Moniker’s lack of communication.

About 2 weeks ago, I decided to give Moniker a phone call, and ask them what in the world was going on there. When I got connected with a sales representative, all he could say was they can’t guarentee when we would get the response (which contradicted the website that said all submissions will be responded to within 2 business days of the time they were submitted). Once I brought this point of contradiction up to the representative, he got a little “pissy” with me, and told me he would ask his manager about that later, but there was nothing he could do about it.

After all this, whether it’s DOMAINfest, or whether it’s Moniker, or whether it’s both of them, they clearly can’t get their acts together and respond to submissions as they promise to on their websites. This happens to be one of my pet peeves. When a website says they will do something within a certain time limit, or even a person says they will, and it is not done within that time frame. Until this situation clears up as to who is at fault for lack of communication with domain submissions, I along with other Moniker customer’s won’t be at their happiest Feel free to submit your comments, and whether you have experienced the same problems with your submissions, or problems with Moniker.

I just experienced karma when writing an article I was started a couple of minutes ago about how I really liked GoDaddy and wondered why people dislike it so much (based on a poll by DNKitchen.com). So after writing my intro which you can read below, I took a little break to work on one of my upcoming “eco” websites. AND OF COURSE, my domain I am using for the site, which is registered at GoDaddy, starts forwarding to my primary company website, Asmro.com. Just read my intro to my article I was writing, and I will share my new feelings after it:

“Personally, I am quite the fan of GoDaddy.com, and think they are one of the best registrars on the internet. After reading a survey done on DNKitchen.com, the popular vote for the worst registrar on the internet was GoDaddy. I was absolutely shocked, especially considering all my past great experiences I have had with them. So I decided, maybe I just don’t get it, and some readers can fill me in on what’s so bad about GoDaddy. I have always been satisfied with them, and the services they have provided for me and my domain names, especially their customer support.”

So I call GoDaddy, and the customer support representative couldn’t have treated me any worse. She said that when I changed the URL forwarding settings for a totally different domain, it somehow affected this domain. So while stalling her, I went and disabled the forwarding for my domain, and what do you know, NOTHING HAPPENS. Then I told her about how I just changed the settings and disabled URL forwarding, and nothing happened. She says there is nothing she can do, and I need to be a lot more patient then I am being for the system to do it’s thing.

I can’t believe how I was treated. Now, this isn’t to say GoDaddy customer support is bad by any means. Infact, this has been the only representative who has been bad to me. But, of course, look at the timing of this. Talk about karma Anyways, I would still love to get your good and bad opinions on GoDaddy, as well as comments about my experience I just had.

People are registering many domains every single day, and some are paying regular fee for each of them. You can save about $3.00 per domain using the method of Diet Domaining. Diet Domaining is my way to save a whole lot of money and be able to register many more domains then I would have been able to if I paid regular fee for my domains.

Whenever I tell people about Diet Domaing, they will give me a funny face, because of my method’s name. The term, “Diet Domaining”, is just another way of saying, use coupon codes! I call it Diet Domaining because instead of saving calories like you do in a diet, you are saving money on domains!

One coupon code that I use commonly gets me domains for $6.95. It’s “OYH3″. But their are tons of other coupon codes you can use. Just search “Godaddy Coupon Codes” in Google, and you will be able to find tons of different options you can use. GoDaddy is the only register that I like to register my domains with, but I know that they also have alike coupons at Moniker.

I save hundreds of dollars using Diet Domaining, and you can too! Tell me how it goes for you by submitting your comments now.
