AuctionPus.com is a relatively new domain auction website. When the site was put up about a month or two ago, the owners sent me an email requesting that I do a blog article on it. Normally, I don’t enjoy giving people free reviews. But I knew the owner and knew he wouldn’t be waisting my time, so a few weeks later, I checked it out. Since then, I have been checking the auctions everyday, even bidding on one here and there. I’m very impressed with the website, and think it has a great concept.

Here’s my thoughts as to why it’s a such a solid concept. The owner only has 8 auctions in a given day. He must be selective because he’s limited to picking such few domains. Therefore, he has the ability to pick the best names to auction off, allowing bidders to bid on these better names.

Now, on a website like TDNAM.com, GoDaddy’s aftermarket, there are tons and tons of auctions going on. It’s tough to find a good name, and takes a lot of your effort and time. With AuctionPus.com, there are normally 8 great names that go through a highly selective process for you to choose from, so you don’t need to waist your time searching and searching and searching some more. As the title says, AuctionPus.com is more selective, which allows bidders to bid on better names, which results in less time and effort on your part because AuctionPus.com won’t spit out thousands of junky domains you’d have to scroll through.

Feel free to leave your reviews or thoughts below in the comments section.

Reported earlier by DotWeekly.com, LPHONE.com is for sale on GoDaddy’s domain name aftermarket. Unless you’re planning on using the domain to promote a totally different concept, it’s a name that deceives users. Take search engines for example. When you’re searching for X, you’ll get a bunch of results with the result’s domain name at the bottom. The domain name is written in all lowercase letters, making this domain lphone.com.

When a domain name is deceiving to consumers, often times companies like Apple can sue for trademark infringement. And we all know what happened last time Apple sued a domain name owner for trademark infringement. They kicked some serious ass and got the domains they wanted.

Lets say that I buy LPhone.com and make it into a brand called Love Phone where singles can talk to each other. While that is completely irrelevent to the iPhone, visitors to LPhone.com can still easily get confused and think that the Love Phone brand is associated with the iPhone. A disclaimer on the homepage might help the owner’s case, but nonetheless, the name looks so similar to iPhone.com.

Do you think that this is a no win situation for the buyer of this domain? I’ll tell you this, there’s absolutely no chance Apple will make the owner of the domain name an offer. If anything, the owner would be taken to court quicker than a tiger chases his pray if Apple wanted in the first place. So if you had that thought in mind, save yourself some money and don’t bid on this name. My recommendation is it’s awfully dangerous to own this domain due to the trademark infringement aspect. Submit your comments below, I’d love to hear them.

Over the past week or two, I’ve noticed something about the domaining community that I hadn’t before. To put it simply, we’re a tight, connected community. With the earthquake in Haiti and the announcement about Bill Strong’s charity, I’ve seen numerous articles published about each. And it’s amazing the amount of support we are able to give each other, especially when somebody is in need.

I thought that this would be an appropriate time to publish the letter that Bill Strong, a fellow domainer, sent out to gain support for his family’s charity. If his charity gets enough votes in a contest, they will be given a $1,000,000 grant from Chase Bank. A link to the voting is in the letter below. Currently, Strong’s charity is ranked #5 out of the 500,000 charities in this contest.

<quote>Dear Friends:

Please take two minutes to read this. Our charity is currently closing in on 5th place, with more than 30,000 votes, out of more than 500,000 organizations to win a $1 Million grant from Chase and we need your help to keep the momentum up through the end of final round voting on Friday, January 22.

I’ll try to make this as short as possible. Many of you know that my two-year-old daughter, Gwendolyn, has a terminal genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is the leading genetic killer of young children and at the ripe old age of 2, Gwendolyn is considered an outlier living with this cruel disease. Gwendolyn is awesome — in every way — plain and simple. But this degenerative disease has left my precious little girl completely paralyzed and dependent on machines to eat, swallow, cough, and breathe — while her mind remains untouched. In short, SMA is a brutal disease and we’re fighting to help cure it, hopefully in time to save Gwendolyn’s life.

Our nonprofit, the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation, has a unique opportunity to win a $1 Million grant in the Chase Community Giving campaign on Facebook. How did that happen? Well, our supporters voted us to one of the top 100 organizations out of more than 500,000 charities in the first round and we’re now in 6th place with more than 30,000 votes in the final round. We’ve pledged 100% of anything we receive from Chase to SMA awareness and research programs and this amount of funding, which is extremely material to SMA programs, WILL help accelerate that CURE for SMA — no doubt about that.

So, please take a few minutes out of your day to help us out:

VOTE – Go to http://VoteForSMA.com to vote

POST LINK – Post the voting link – http://VoteForSMA.com – to your Facebook profile every day of this week

POST VIDEO – Post our campaign YouTube video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQkUwDEou7Q – to your Facebook profile

EMAIL – Forward the voting link – http://VoteForSMA.com – to at least 20 contacts and ask that they do the same

TWITTER – Use our creative http://VoteForACure.com Twitter app to spread the word

For more information on the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation, please visit http://GwendolynStrongFoundation.org.

Thank you for your help. We can’t do this alone, but together we can make this $1 Million MIRACLE an SMA reality — for all of those impacted by this horrible disease!

It’s no secret that DomainState.com is for sale and has been a hot topic within the domaining community since it was put up for sale approximately 1 week ago. After 2 days of receiving interest and offers, they sent out an email to the people who have shown interest in the website stating the they have decided to sell the website through an auction. Reported earlier today by ChefPatrick.com, DomainState.com decided to cancel the auction and continue taking offers after receiving a $20,000 offer from one of the three owners.

For one of the owner’s to put in a $20,000 offer for the website at this point in the sale isn’t really fair to other potential buyers. From an ethical standpoint, had the owner seriously been considering placing a $20,000 offer on the table, DomainState.com should’ve waited until he decided for or against it.

And to make matters worse, the owner knew what others were offering, so he was able to base his offer off of that. That’s information that other potential buyers did not have. To put it simply, it’s completely unethical.

Whether the owner’s offer is legitimate or not, I cannot say. Chances are it is a legitimate offer, but I would say a better question is, was it DomainState.com’s plan from the beginning to tell potential buyers about the $20,000 offer this late into the game, or were the other 2 owners not aware of the third owner considering placing a $20,000 offer until now. I can tell you that if the owner truly did put a $20,000 offer on DomainState.com, he’d really only be paying about $13,333 because he’ll get a 1/3 cut of whatever the website sells for. So they’re putting the pressure on bidders to make an offer higher than $20,000, when really the offer is only about $13,333. One good thing that can come from this is that this tells bidders that there most likely isn’t a bid above $13,333.

My main point here is that when a website is involved in this type of sketchy, unethical activity, it’s most likely going to lose a lot of interest and potential buyers. In my opinion, I would feel like I’m walking on dangerous turf dealing with these owners given the circumstances. Is it fair to not only change the type of sale twice, but for the owner, who can see the offers that were coming in, to make an offer at that point? I look forward to your comments.

The DomainTips & SnapNames new year’s auction has been going on since the 5th of january, and is coming to an end soon, on Tuesday, January 12. There are truly some great, category-killer .com and .net names being auctioned. The thing that really caught my attention and made me want to publish an article about this is many of these domains are going at bargain prices, or don’t have bids and are still valuable domains.

There are about 100 names being auctioned. Here are my favorites:

Necklace.net; Current Bid: $9,645 (Reserve Met)

ArmChair.net; Current Bid: $7,240 (Reserve Met)

Casserole.net; Current Bid: $3,595 (Reserve Met)

ComputerChair.com; No Bids; Reserve: $5,001-$10,000

HydronicHeating.com; No Bids; Reserve: $5,001-$10,000

Epilator.net; No Bids; Reserve: $5,001-$10,000

EarringRack.com; No Bids; Reserve: $501-$1,000

As you can see, there’s quite a quality selection. I’m just shocked at the affordability of some of these names. There’s over 88 exact product match domain names. You can see the full list of domain names in auction by clicking here. I might be bidding on some towards the end of the auction, depending on how the auction progresses. Make sure to get your bids in.
