In Season Domaining: A Good Short-Term Investment?
In season domaining deals with domains having to do with the time of year, or season. For example, an in season domain right now might be a domain that has to do with Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Hanukkah. Whether or not these do make a solid short-term investment is debatable taking into consideration the various pros and cons to thse domains. Of course, there is always one major pro and con for each side, which is what we will be taking a look at today.
The great thing about in season domains is during the season that your domain is in season, chances are you will get an increased amount of traffic, whether your web page is parked or developed. For example, lets say you have a Christmas domain. People are thinking more about Christmas during Christmas time, and will be searching it more often, which will potentially lead to an increase in traffic. But at the same token, when your domain is out of season, and you have a Christmas domain in the summer for example, you won’t see as many people searching for terms regarding Christmas, and your traffic will not be as high as before when your domain was in season. This will cause your profits to swoop on down.
Those are the two major pros and cons as to whether in season domaining is a solid investment. My personal opinion is that some in season domains are good invesments while others are not. It really depends on the size of the holiday. For example, a Christmas domain is a nice investment, because Christmas is an longer holiday. Like people do their holiday shopping months in advanced sometime, and it is searched quite often. But a domain for a holiday like the fourth of July might not be as good as an investment because it might be highly searched for the week that it takes place in, but not much more.
