The Psychiatric Ways of eBay and Domains
Psychology is a very interesting topic not normally discussed within the domaining community, when the fact is that psychology is really a part of everyday domaining. In this article I will be discussing about domain psycology on eBay, and strategies people use when selling their domains to attract buyers to their listing, and possibly bid.
The main psychiatric strategy I see at least in 15 listings a day is using very sexual-related pictures for your item’s picture/logo. Now personally, I know when I first started domaining, and I went onto eBay to look for domains, these logo’s would always make me click to look for more information about the auction, and possibly even bid. So it is true that in many cases, these sexual logo’s will attract people, like myself to auction.
I will say that I now stay away from any auctions with sexual pictures as there picture/logo, just because in my mind it shows the seller is desperate, and can’t sell the domain for what it is, but instead for their domain’s logo’s attraction to eBay viewers.
Now, another psychiatric strategy I have seen on eBay is seller’s not saying the domain in their auction title. While this may be a bit misleading, it gets many viewers to view and consider your auction. For example, if a seller says for the title, “Must See Domain, At GoDaddy Until 2009, AMAZING DEAL!” Psychologically, that kind of title makes the viewers want to see what the domain is and look into your auction. This strategy helps gain many customer’s who may have been uninterested otherwise.
Anyways, I am not going to continue blabbing away. I thought it would be very interesting to share some things I have seen on eBay and how these psychiatric ways work. Please feel free to comment on your feelings about these different strategies and other pyschological viewers can consider and possibly use on eBay in the future.
