Interview With Reece Berg: New Owner of LLLL.com
I got the chance to have a one-on-one interview with Reece Berg, a well-respected domainer whom just purchased the domain, LLLL.com. This is not any LLLL.com, it is the literal LLLL.com. Below you can see my interview with Reece, learn a little bit about him, and learn some of the specifics on the purchase. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the interview!
Tell me a little bit about your childhood, and where you come from.
I grew up in a small town called St Pierre Jolys in Manitoba, Canada. I have one younger brother and sister and grew up very middle class.
What’s your educational background like?
I’m a college dropout who makes his living online. I’m exploring the possibility of returning to college — domaining has afforded me that luxury.
So domaining is your primary job at this point in time?
Yes, domaining is paying the bills.
How did you come across the listing for LLLL.com?
Phil (VURG from NamePros) mentioned to me that he’d be auctioning the domain a few weeks beforehand. I asked that he please let me know when he did and told him that I’d be interested in bidding on it.
What made you want to buy this particular domain?
I’ve been wanting to own “LLLL.com” for awhile now. I see it as the flagship name in the 4 letter world from a domainer’s perspective. Also, there aren’t a whole lot of websites dedicated to 4 letter .coms out there and I’m hoping to use the natural traffic derived from LLLL.com to further promote LLLL.coms to a wider audience.
How much did you buy LLLL.com for and from whom? Was it very hard to acquire?
I bought LLLL.com for $7900 in a Sedo auction. The domain was previously owned by well respected Namepros member VURG. And yes, I guess you could say it was hard to acquire. I’ve been speaking to the previous owner on and off about LLLL.com for several months leading up to the acquisition — I’ve wanted it for quite some time and am grateful to have been given the opportunity to acquire it. For awhile, I was uncertain whether I’d ever have the opportunity, as Phil (previous owner) was exploring the possibility of developing it himself.
What exactly are you planning to do with the domain?
I’m planning on launching a blog primarily targeting new domainers to help educate them on how to transact business. It sounds simple to all of us, but there really is a lot of stuff out there for a newcomer to learn — pushes, pulls, transfers, obtaining authorization codes, expired domains and back-orders, negotiation strategies, etc. Naturally, I’m hoping to convert these new domainers into future LLLL.com investors. The site will also be complete with a price guide and database which stores LLLL.com sales. I’m considering the possibility of adding a marketplace for LLLL.coms, however that’s not a sure thing yet. I’m also exploring the possibility of approaching the major companies involved in LLLL.com auctions/sales and offering them the option to have their feed on LLLL.com.
Again, thank you Reece for your time. I know that our viewers will be excited to not only learn a little bit about the new owner of LLLL.com, but a little bit about DNUnderground.com’s newest author (Reece will begin writing for DNUnderground periodically). Everyone can feel free to comment, and ask any questions you may have for Reece, or submit any comments about the sale.
