Will the Economy Effect the Domain Industry?
The economy is the worst it has been in a very long time. And I have seen it effecting many different industries and businesses. Today, our government granted a very big, world-wide insurance company, AIG, 85 billion dollars, just so that AIG wouldn’t fall to the ground like many other big businesses. After hearing this news, a very interesting question popped into my head. Will this horrible economy effect domainers like it has been effecting other industries and businesses?
This has definitely grown into a big issue for domainers. Watching some of the world’s largest industries and companies go down in flames, it makes everyone wonder, what will happen with the smaller industries like ours? And no one really for sure knows the answer to that.
My opinion is that it has been slowly effecting the domain industry more and more. People are spending much less on domains. I used to be able to sell a solid keyword domain for about $100, where as now, I can only get about $75 for it. Now, I don’t think the domain industry will ever crash like the economy is doing with all of these other industries, but it will definitely have some impact.
A little bit later today, I will be watching the NamePros Live Auction, where domains tend to go for a hefty amount. In the live auction’s too, I have seen this trend, where domains are going for less and less. And they have been for the last few auction’s I watched. But I will definitely keep everyone updated with the highest sale prices, biggest bargains, etc.
Please comment on your thoughts of the economy’s effect on the domain industry.
