The Masters Sudden Death: How it Relates to Websites

As I am sure many of you are doing right now, I’m sitting in front of my television watching Kenny Perry, Chad Campbell, and Angel Cabrera face off in the 7th sudden death in Masters history on the last day of the tournament. This intense competition really got me thinking that competition is one of the underestimated componenets of creating a website.

If you go to one of the bigger domain name and website forums, such as NamePros or DigitalPoint, you’ll see many news websites for example going on the market and selling for pretty reasonable prices. What most of these buyers don’t consider is competition. I am probably the most hypocritical person in the world accusing people of not thinking about competition because I do it on a daily basis. Still, let’s stop to take a look at these news websites competition.

If you are reporting recent news, think about CNN, ABC, FOX, Dateline, Weather Channel, and other HUGE companies alike to them that report the news online and offline. That’s who your going up against when you own a news website.

Unless you know a marketing technique that no one in the world knows about and works like no other, or you have a ton of money to really market your website (which normally has quite a bit of competition), chances are there isn’t much room for a high success level for your website.

Now there are plenty of great niches out there that have no competition, that might be a better choice to look into and create a website about so that you have a chance and don’t have many huge competitors.

Anyways, I know this wasn’t my best article, and it is biased to say most people don’t consider competition, but I wanted to get your thoughts on competition and websites. I just hate seeing people buy these websites where they have these huge competitiors and little chance for success. Please comment below.
