Picking the Right Niche for a Mini Site
I am sorry that I haven’t been writing articles lately, but I have just gotten so busy with the holidays that just passed, and a lot of work. One of the things I have been doing a lot of lately is building mini sites. My normal process for building a mini site is buying or registering a nice domain, throwing a nice free WordPress theme on it, and lastly putting some content up on it.
The hardest part of the process is no doubt writing the content. And it just dawned on me that the wider the niche the easier it would be to write content on because it would be easier to research. Of course, it’s not that easy. You don’t want to get into to big of a niche, or else your mini site has no chance at making it big. Lets say for a second that you have a political blog where you post political news. You have extremely slim chances competing against other political news coverage websites such as CNN or the New York Times.
Now if you are looking to quickly build and flip a website, maybe a much larger niche might be better for you. If your not planning on keeping and marketing your mini site, you won’t have to compete with sites like CNN, and the buyer (whoever you end up flipping the site to) will have to worry about that.
So the right niche might be opposites for some. There is no one great niche. If you know a lot about a small niche topic that doesn’t have many websites about it, that would be a PERFECT niche for you. For example, I have a rubik’s cube blog because I happen to know a lot about the rubik’s cube. That gets a solid amount of visitors and revenue daily because there aren’t many sites about the rubik’s cube, and so Google gives me a lot of organic traffic.
I would love to hear comments about past niche subjects that have worked out for you long term and short term, so make sure to comment!
