Things to Look for in Domain Names
Whenever evaluating a domain name, whether you are buying one or selling one, there are certain things you should always look for, in order to give yourself the most accurate appraisal of a domain. While reading my tips, keep in mind that while all of the things outlined below are extremely important, value is in the eyes of the beholder, so some might be willing to pay much more or less then others. The tips below are there to help you examine the most important key elements of a domain name, disregarding opinions.
1) Search the domain’s keyword(s) in Google in quotes. So if I were to buy HappyHolidays.com, in Google I would search “Happy Holidays” (including the quotes). If my search returns more then 70,000 Google results, that means it has very good keywords in it.
2) Check if the domain has a PR (page rank). Most buyers prefer to buy domains with a PR, and the PR can significantly increase the value of the domain name. Make sure to check multiple PR checking websites, to make sure the domain has a not only valid PR, but a consistency so you know your domain definitely has a certain PR, and nothing lower.
3) Check to see if the domain has traffic. Traffic can also play a key role in your domains main features, and can make your domain a lot more attractive. Be careful though, because if you are buying a domain, and a seller says a domain has X amount of traffic, make sure he provides you with not only proof of the traffic, but sources as well. Be very careful because some sellers will pay PTC websites to provide them with a bunch of hits for cheap amounts, when they are in reality, faulty visitors.
